Quik® Wood Protector (Clear)

SKU
For the surface protection of timber from fungal degeneration and against certain timber-destroying insects in above ground situations.
Quik® Wood Protector is a combination of water repellent and fungicide for previously treated or naturally durable timbers to prevent effects of weathering, warping, shrinking, checking, cupping, splitting, splintering, swelling and grain raising. Quik Wood Protector dries clear and enhances natural features of the timber. If the timber has been previously painted or varnished it is necessary to remove the old coating before applying.
Quik® Wood Protector contains waxes and resins in a hydrocarbon solvent. When the solvent evaporates, the waxes and resins are left within the timber cell structure, forming a barrier to slow the movement of water into and out of the timber. Metalex Wood Protector may darken some timbers slightly but will dry clear and grey or fade over time. Surface Preparation: Ensure surface is clean and dry, free of dust, grease and other contaminants. Galvanised nails should be used to avoid rust stains. If any mould is present, remove as much as possible by scraping and brushing with a firm brush. Use a high-pressure water system to remove any excess and to ensure a thorough clean.

Application
- Stir Quik Wood Protector thoroughly before use and intermittently during application.
- Apply a single coat to the surface using flood brushing or rolling, wait 24 hours then apply final coat. Depending on its exposure to the elements, timber will need reapplication coats at intervals initially of 6 to 12 months and then at longer periods up to 3 to 5 years. Treated timber can be painted over with oil based paints, primers and stains 3 days after treatment in fine warm weather and after a week in cooler weather (<20°C). Note that Quik Wood Protector Clear may slow the drying rate of primers. It is recommended to allow at least a further 24 hours drying time for the primer in addition to the manufacturer’s normal instructions.
- If in doubt consult the manufacturer. If water-based acrylics are to be used on Quik Wood ProtectorClear treated timber, it is recommended to first coat the timber with an oil-based primer. The extent of the protection will depend on the function of the timber species, moisture content of the timber at time of treatment and the hazards to which the timber will be exposed.
